I recently moved. Found a parish I like, but haven't officially joined yet. Their summer Mass time also isn't the most convenient for me, so have been trying other locations some Sundays (turns out the local parish for the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests isn't for me).
Attended a parish last week that I'm not sure if I should give it a second chance. The sermon was great despite only doing 2 of 3 readings. The rector is clearly on the reform side of Anglicalism, I'm on the Catholic side.
After the service he had a "Coffee with the Rector" session to discuss a series of articles he wrote in the parish bulletin about the decline of the Episcopal Church. From that meeting I gathered:
1- He says he is one of only 3 Bible believing, good priests in the diocese.
2- Most of his mention to specific bishops used the word "Idiot"
3-The Episcopal Church used to let parishes do their own thing. Once they got more centralized in diocese things went bad.
4-The point of the Church is to preach the Gospel to sinners. Our favorite social cause is secondary.
I agree with #4. Don't know enough history of TEC to speak on #3. #1-2 left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm tempted to attend again just because it's at a convenient time and I kind of want to see part 2 of "Coffee Hour on the Decline of the Episcopal Church."
