I've been playing drums on and off for fun for about two years now. I'm probably intermediate in my skill level. Recently, I've been stuck in a rut where I'm not improving my skill, and every time I go to play, it all sounds the same as before. All of my fills I improvise are more or less the same and over and over. All of my grooves are carbon copies of each other even when I try to switch it up, my brain goes right back to the old ones after a fill. I would love any advice on how to get my creativity flowing again and how I can open up on the set instead of feeling confined like I am now. I am also going to be playing the set for jazzband next year (My Sophmore year), and I want to move past this rut so I can improve before the next school year's start. I really don't want to let the band down. I would appreciate any advice. thanks
