I wish substances weren't so demonized.

Currently poundering about this while taking a shit. I mean there is a percentage of people that get high and are fuck ups but there are also a ton of other people that do okay and still like to get high. I wish substance use could be normalized and made legal honestly. I hate that i've gotta hide the fact that i enjoy using from most of the people i know because otherwise they'd get a negative opinion of me, especially since it's a big part of my life.

Addiction isn't a disease. Addiction is a disorder. It's learned behavior and a formed habit mixed with chemical dependency.
I have been addicted to meth and nearly every drug class that exists. (Poly-drug Addict) I still think about using every single day, and I've been clean from meth for 4-5 months.
I do still use cannabis once nightly because it helps keep my cPTSD nightmares away.
Addiction isn't a disease, but it sure as hell is a disorder you live with for life if you're in active addiction or sober.
You live with your addiction until you die. You just learn to cope around it.
Someone who flat out says "addiction isn't a disease" without much explanation has never been in an addicts shoes, and I envy you.
I am sure you didn't mean anything by it. Just wanted to make it clear how addiction doesn't just "stop" like use.
Even someone who is 12 years sober can relapse and most likely even thought about using throughout the entirety of their sobriety.
Addiction IS a disorder.
Those of us who stop and those of us who don't are still living with an addiction disorder that we will carry forever.
I hope this makes sense and doesn't come off as mean. 💜
