Can dreams create trauma or ptsd?

Post Body

I ask because I dreamed I had a cat (and I do but she looked different) and someone came up to her and stabbed her. Blood was....everywhere. if it was real life, it would have been all the blood, but she was still alive in the dream. Just my parents (who I hadn't lived with for over a decade), took her away to the vet. Other things happened in the dream but when I woke, I realized I never found out if she made it. And honestly, I came to terms quickly she didn't with that much blood lost and no word from anyone in the dream......

This effected my day in so many ways. It doesn't help that it rained all day and it's that time of the month....but I've been having multiple breakdowns all night, about various things....including the dream. Do dreams affect people long term? Can we develop trauma or ptsd from dreams?
