I'm going to try and make this as short as possible to avoid drama. I had a much much longer post I was going to put on the /r/detrans sub and I opted not to do it because it would have been a calamity of reddit drama.
I have techniques to detransition people efficiently just as I have techniques for transition. I do not shout this from the rooftops, but fairly often (at least once a month) I have someone decide that transition is not right for them for whatever reason, and I help them do this.
I do this without judgement in the same way that I transition people without judgement. When it comes to adults, it is not my job to sort out whether or not transition is right for them. This is what psychiatry and therapy are for. My job is to help them do it safely and effectively. Its 100% not my job for children, and that always needs a good psych workup before doing anything permanent-ish.
In the same way, my office will gladly help anyone de-transition, and restore their body back to as close as we can get it to their pre-transition state. I have medical techniques to do this faster than "stop hormones" and I know surgeons personally who are willing to help with everything ranging from top issues to voice to hair and so on.
I recently had a patient apologize to me asking me to do this, as they said, "I know you worked so hard to help me with breast growth and I feel like I'm letting you down".
This really struck me, and I wanted to post on it. I do not treat transgender people because I ascribe to some political ideology. I'm a libertarian moderate, which surprises many people. No, I'm not some alt-right nutjob, but nor am I super leftist. I'm sort of a "lets think critically and come to a compromise" kind of guy. I think personal freedom and body autonomy is paramount above nearly all other rights. I treat transgender people because in my opinion, it is the most humane thing to do for a person in that situation when other treatment options are ineffective (and I would and have tried other things in some situations if I thought it might actually work and the patient wanted to try). If giving someone a body that more closely approximates what their neural architecture says it should be allows them to live a happier healthier life, then I've done my job. In reverse, if detransition will help them do that, I will do my best to restore everything back to how it was.
In short, if you at some point in your journey decide that detransition is what you want to do, I will help you no differently than I would if you asked me to help you transition. Its that simple. No politics, no drama. I just want my patients to live their best, happiest, healthiest lives.
