EC is superior to EV in that EV has a half life of 3-4 days whereas EC lasts about 8-10 days before being halved.

This means you can use EC for once a week dosing without worrying about having a major level drop. Some patients may even be able to go 10 days to 14 days without having to do another injection.

Regardless, anybody currently on EV can switch to EC without a dose change. You will be prescribed the same dosage, but the interval will be increased or even doubled.
