I live in an apartment complex with fairly decent concrete walls that filter out TV, music, etc. and after living here for 2 years, aside from my neighbor who plays loud bass music from 11am-3am that clearly violated noise ordinance laws (it was easy to report him to management), it has been fairly quiet. Then suddenly he got a dog and it would bark in two hour intervals in the day time. It would also bark at times in the evening but not nearly as much. Since I still work at home because of the pandemic and was not on friendly terms with him, I contacted the landlord who never responded about my complaint.
Luckily or so I thought, he moved out and a new person moved in. This person has an even worse dog who starts barking from 7am until at least 4-5pm basically continuously. There's no way for me to sleep unless I get on their schedule, or get a few hours of sleep and then wait until its owner comes back and it quiets down. In addition, since I still work at home, it's just a nightmare even if I have noise blocking headphones to hear the barking for 8-9 hours straight. I would have to request my employer to allow me to go work on site in order to avoid this. I've read about past similar accounts and am going to record this, as well as document all the times this is happening but just wanted an idea if anyone was able to legally break their lease since in my city, this violates noise ordinance laws regarding specifically dog barking.
I contacted the landlord again but if they don't respond like last time, I'm considering submitting all the 'evidence' I've collected and citing violation of the noise ordinance law as justification for breaking the lease.
