So, I have some friends in from out of town this weekend, some of whom have never played DnD before. I'm thinking I want to run a one-shot, but I also want to include secondary goals for each character, which would allow them to "win," if some conditions are met (without knowing what other players need to do to "win"). This is contrary to what I tell everyone when they ask be able tabletop games; I always am adamant that there is no "winning." But I think this could be an interesting one-shot.
An idea I had was to have one player secretly be Evil, with a victory condition of causing the group to fail, in some way, at the climax of the game; another character would know that one of the group is evil, and would seek to determine who it is workout sewing seeds of distrust.
Now I just need more goals for more players! Any ideas?
