What does it mean to "leave to be single"?

Ive been separated from my stbxw for a little over a year. About 5 months ago, I started what quickly became a serious relationship. Now, that relationship is falling apart. It's been brought to my attention that it was too early to attempt such a thing, and that I "need to learn how to be single". What does that even mean? Am I supposed to just stay alone in my house for years?
