late to this party (am op) but i'm not sure this is the case. Like, I once interviewed someone who had a some really brutal fetishes, like got off from women being killed and stuff, but refused to watch anything *real*; if he knew that there was actually damage being done *in real life* to the people on film, that deeply disturbed him and he couldn't. He mostly stuck to animated porn because of this.
My point is that you can be into some really terrible things, like killing people or ruining innocence, but really prefer depictions of this that aren't actually real. Unfortunately there's basically zero examples in this category when it comes to realistic CP, so we don't know how many pedos would prefer that category.
