Post Body

Hello! I’m a long time lurker of this sub and this is my first post :) I started cross stitch as a hobby about two years ago using kits. I never did anything that was larger than a six inch hoop. I’m starting my first actual, large project. It’s the Super Mario World - Yoshi’s Island from Etsy. The pattern says the finished project will be roughly 18.5 x 12.75 inches, so to be sure I had room around the edges I cut my aida to be 23 x 17 inches. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and I know how to fold the fabric and dot the center, but I’m having issues figuring out which point from the dot is the center... as the dot isn’t perfectly aligned with a hole in the fabric. Does anybody have any tips or ideas for how to help me out? Any YouTube videos with close ups that are high quality enough that the holes in the fabric can be seen clearly? I want to grid this project because it’s the largest I’ve ever done but I’m just having issues with getting everything started. Most of the YouTube videos I’m finding are too blurry or not focused enough so the holes are very hard to see and it’s making me wary of just trying to figure it out myself. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
