WHAT THIS COMMUNITY IS:
Giving people small loans to get back. $5, $10, maybe a little more. Just help each other out. The goal is to help people get off their feet and/or survive for another day.
WHAT THIS COMMUNITY IS NOT:
This community is not meant to make money. Do not try to "make money" off of people or each other. Expect taking a loss - hey, even 'give' your money away for free and don't even ask for a return.
I'd like to talk about the rules and why I made them the way I did.
Rule 1.
"No one under the age of 18 years old can be given a loan. Proven violators of this rule will be permanently banned. No exceptions, comments, concerns, appeals, discussions, or debates on this. It's non-negotiable."
Minors/children make everything complicated. Legal adults are just easier to interact with. A 15/16 year old (or younger) doesn't normally NEED-need $5-$10 and if they legitimately NEED it then there's a lot more problems there than just money because they should, hopefully, have parents to take care of them. This community is gear-ed more towards adults trying to survive the day to day.
Rule 2.
"No loans above $1,000. This means both receiving and/or loaning $1,000 or more via this community. Go to a real bank or a real accredited lender. This is supposed to be for helping people get off their feet and/or get by. Anyone caught lending and/or borrowing above $1,000 will be permanently banned."
The government doesn't need to be in here; not the IRS, not the FBI, not anyone else. People don't need to be using this community as a springboard to be moving 100s of 1000s of dollars. Go to a REAL bank if you have that kind of money because you shouldn't be here. This community is for people who need gas to go to work, not for day traders to move money or whatever.
Rule 3.
"Loan dodgers will be permanently banned. Pay back your loan or don't borrow at all."
Regardless on if it's justifiable or not that a person can't repay their loan, if this community gets a reputation of having loan-dodgers in and all around it, no one is gonna wanna lend out anymore and everyone will suffer. If money is given away as a gift, that's another story.
Rule 4.
"No predatory loans. What this means will be up to the mods, but as an example: 'Loaning out $10, $100 to be paid back'."
We aren't here to money off of people. People can charge a little extra, say "giving out $10, want $15 back", but don't make money off people. Expect losses.
Rule 5.
"No sob stories, trauma dumps, or life stories. Do not write a book on why you need money; a simple "I need food"/"I need medicine"/"I need [blank]". No one wants to read a bible-length essay on why things are rough; we all understand already times are tough."
This should be self explanatory. Just help each other out, we don't need each person tell us about the last 10 years of their life or what they're going through just to get $5 or whatever they need.
Rule 6.
"LENDERS: No IDs or verification. No swapping personal information. Either loan or don't; it doesn't need to be filling a bank form. You don't need someone's birth certificate, email, car keys, blood type, date of birth, and more for small loans. Don't loan to "make money"; expect losses. If you "need to go after someone" because you need your money back; you shouldn't have loaned to start with. Sometimes it could be a scam, sometimes it could be people's luck got worse."
I gave away my info to someone in another lending community and they didn't even give me a loan who asked me for a "security deposit". I felt and still feel naked and vulnerable. We're all strangers on the internet; if you feel like you "need to track someone down"; DO NOT LOAN MONEY. If you need the money back, DO NOT LOAN IT OUT.
Rule 7.
Giving away money as a "gift" is allowed, but you have to be upfront about it. It needs to be in writing it's a "gift". Lenders/gift givers must write in CLEAN, CLEAR WRITING two things: The amount they are giving and that they are ACTIVELY not wanting it back. Anyone who comes back for a "gift" weeks or months or any amount of time later will be permanently banned with no appeal.
This should be self explanatory. As for the "CLEAN, CLEAR WRITING two things" thing I said; don't be coming for people for a "gift". I will ban anyone and everyone who comes to someone they "gifted" money to later on holding it over the recipient's head.
Rule 8.
LENDERS: No "security deposits"/asking for money to loan money. That doesn't make any sense. Do not try to "make money" off people here. Expect losses.
It's the same idea with what I said with rule 1 and rule 6; we're here to help people and no one needs to be loaning out money they need back.
"It's about security." "What if I get scammed?"
Don't loan if you need it back. No discussion, no debate. If you need it back, you don't need to be giving it out.
