The Italian Aircraft Carrier Aquila remains the last capital ship in Italian hands yet to be fully completed and the only aircraft carrier Italy ever built. Due to the arms restrictions we are forced to dismantle the ship or sell it for scrap. It is a shame for this vessel has already succeeded in sea trials and was near completion by the time the civil war broke out. It was partially scuttled by the MAS but lifted and repaired, the ship still holds value intact. Thus utilizing our now burgeoning relations with Turkey in naval and military development, the Aquila is to be oficially “sold” for scrap to Turkish breaking yards but it will actually be transported to the Sea of Marmara, safe from prying Western and Eastern eyes where it will serve Italy as a testing base. Ankara and Rome both agreed to the following new stipulations in regards to the Aquila:
-Italy and Turkey will jointly construct a naval fitting area in Bandirma, equipped with a drydock of sufficient length to service both the Ataturk and the Aquila. Italy will provide the Machinery as well as architects with experience, while Turkey provides the construction materials and manpower.
-Turkey will receive the Aquila under the agreement that it will remain primarily used for Italian testing of carrier based aircraft, and in turn be funded and maintained fully by Italy. The ship will also host exercises for the Italo-Turkish Naval Academy, making up for some of its cost in this way.
-In the event of war, Turkey would have the option to activate the Aquila with the aircraft aboard to be used for our Defense.
Turkey and Italy will jointly complete the Aquila in Turkey, where it will technically be in the service of the Turkish Navy.
