Alrighty! So here's how this will work:

1. Prospective councilors will announce their candidacy in this thread. You can make the post as detailed or as vague as you want on policy, this is just bookkeeping. Candidates may drop out or join at any time during the election.

2. On Saturday I'll open the Debate thread. Basically it's a Q&A for the candidates - voters may ask questions on just about anything. This'll last for 2 days and close on Monday.

3. Voting will commence on Monday. As there are 2 council seats open for filling, ballots must contain 2 names to be considered valid. Top 2 candidates will win the seats and be added to the council!

Responsibilites

• Councilors serve as judges. They are responsible for arbitrating disputes and judging criminal cases. There's a great deal of latitude in determining sentencing and without a jury the councilor is the sole determiner of whether the defendant is guilty or not, so a sense of justice would be valuable.

• Councilors serve as legislators. They write laws to govern the nation as a whole. Meetings are held over Steam groupchat or Discord as needed, though I would like a weekly meeting perhaps to discuss issues.

• Councilors should maintain enough activity to be known to the people and visible as leaders of the community.

• As a councilor, you are a leader of the Empire of Yoahtl and represent it to the world. You may not have foreign policy power but as a member of our government your actions will be taken by foreigners as representative of our policies, beliefs, and attitudes. Act like this, please.

Any Yoahtlan citizen may run for council. To register as a citizen, first check the census spreadsheet (sticked in this very subreddit) and see if your username and reddit account are on it. If so, great! If not, message me on here and I'll see about adding you.
