Historically the Ludi Romani, literally: "Roman Games", was an annual multi-day event held in mid September in honor of Jupiter, with each day being filled with many games and ceremonies.
With the dates coinciding with the end of the Generic War - the S.P.Q.R. condensed a week of events into a single day: yesterday, Saturday September 16... as an opportunity to celebrate a year of progress and remember the end of the Generic War.
Games at the Colosseum
While not 100% complete - the Colosseum was deemed complete enough to proceed with the event; A special shoutout to Battleofsky for putting in heroic efforts over these past few weeks in doing the lions share of the building, but a big thanks to Exio, Brado, and everyone else who has helped push the build over the finish line.
A big thanks to all who showed up and participated: Cheatkoe, Renji_Haikon, DarthChini, beeboo, brado and sky, Gamer10161, sirkarde, Achudemic, what777, mrduckdeer, and especially rt6yhjyuvy6 who helped organize the tournament bracket.
The double elimination tournament was a lot of fun. In a "Farley" gear format, the 14 matches saw RT come out of the losers bracket to prevail over BattleofSky in the finals.
After the tournament, the RT and Sky chose teams for the team fight where everyone died.
Elsewhere in Rome
War Relics dating back to the Generic War were installed in the Temple of Mars where Senator BattleofSky officiated over the sacrificing of a sheep... Following the ceremonies in the Temple of Mars, the crowd proceeded to the Temple of Concord where Sirkarde did the honors of lighting the Altar of Peace
Several special momentos are still owed to all who showed up... including the purses for first and second place, and the honors voted to alberl and bradotomato by the Seante and People of Rome.
Again, a special thanks to our Elysian Pact allies and other northern allies in Vinland and Baile for helping make the event possible.
Having gone through the motions of holding games, and dealing with the logistics of organizing and planning and funding events, and with at least one venue completed... we can say we look forward to doing something like this again but on a larger scale in the future, independently or in cooperation with other cities. So if anyone is interested, let us know :)
