Sharing a fence

Post Body

Hi! Does anyone know if you NEED permission to share a fence wall with a neighbor? We’re in the process of getting a fence built and my neighbor on one side has a fence that can be used for part of my lawn. I went over to ask their permission and offer to pay for half of that and the owner’s sister is who is always home. She’s taken my name and number but no response. I’ve been over twice now. I live in an HOA neighborhood and it just looks better if we share a wall otherwise there is this awkward 6 inches in between walls that is “shared” land and we would still be responsible for the grass in-between. The fence company can’t even order supplies until I have HOA approval which takes about a week so I would like to get started ASAP. I don’t want any drama with them but also I feel like I’ve done my part to include them in the discussion. Does anyone know if it’s actually REQUIRED that I get their permission?
