So the last few weeks Iāve been dialling in my tek quite a bit.
My currently method is:
Use average trim (or buds) Dry as dry as possible, dehydrator if theyāre fresh (itās only gong to oil). Once powder dry, chop finely into a mason jar which can be capped off and out in a deep chest freezer for 48 hours.
Have 99.99% isopropyl ideally having been in the same freezer (I believe they go down to -10 or -20C) for a week if possible. Pull both out briefly, just stop fill the cannabis jar just over the material line, and slosh it around with a bread knife.
You want to disturb and agitate the resin on the plant matter. Quickly now cap the jars, and back in the freezer.
Pull them out and repeat the vigorous stirring every 15mins for 1 hour, keeping everything inside the freezers walls as much as possible. You want it to stay ultra cold.
After 1 hour, have coffee filters set up over perhaps the tops of Alice off coke bottles, inverted into a jar. Put the coffee filter in the top, strain the plant matter through a sieve and then directly into the coffee filters.
It will drip slowly over 10-20mins, ideally again keep the jars in the freezer so it traps the plant waxes and lipids some more.
Once itās out, evaporate the isopropyl, I then weigh it, and and then dissolve in 10 mL ethanol 95% for every gram of hash oil, at about 34C temp so that the oil homogenises nicely. If you have BHO it will bubble as the butane escapes at this point.
Once itās mixed, then itās capped off and put in the deep freeze untouched for 3 days.
The next step is another āin the freezerā one, thereās you want to winterise the solution using a pre wet coffee filter with ethanol that is chilled in the freezer too. Pour the jar of solution into the new filter in the freezer, and let it filter in the deep freeze.
Once itās finished, you can evaporate off the ethanol and get ready to decarb the oil for edible use in the oven.
I usually test my oil here, and the last batch showed 83.3% THC on my T-check machine.
Decarb Iāll cover another day, does anyone else process like this? Iāve found my initial yield is cleaner, more volume, higher THC content and leaves nothing on the plant matter whereas all other short soaks do but they complain about extracting unwanteds.
This solves all these problems, I was using 50mg hash oil in my edibles now I use 20mg and get a stronger, more well balanced, pleasurable and healing effect from almost 1/3 of the amount.
So much efficiency to be learned here I reckon
Tell me your stories and methods!
