TW: Self harm. Is NSSI psychologically harmful used as a coping mechanism?
Post Body
I cut. Not often. Not deeply. I take care of my wounds so they don't get infected.
This is a coping mechanism. I cut when I feel the depression start to lap around my ankles. The pain drives it away for a few days, a week, a month.
Is using this as a coping mechanism going to get in the way of healing?
I know there are risks:
- Infection.
- Addiction and it taking larger and more severe doses.
And Ritalin and Escalipram can be misused too.
How much shit am I going to get from my therapist on Tuesday when she sees the fresh cuts on my arms?
