I had this email this morning:
I apologizes for the misunderstanding during the return of your rental equipment. I have reviewed the information and photos regarding your return. I have found that the condition your equipment was returned in was acceptable. I do apologize for the inconvenience. I have processed a refund of 500 dollars back to your Credit Card. Please allow your bank up to 5 business days to process this. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me. Have a great day.
Now obviously, this is GREAT, and I encourage anybody who got hit with a fee to push back against it. However, this was not a misunderstanding. This was some bullshit that someone made up to try to earn a quick shit-ton of money. The guy who told us about the fee told us it applied to all trucks, regardless of the shape they were in. He said there was nothing to do, and that the manager was not present, nor would be consider a refund even if he was present to review the truck.
The Uhaul place that did this is U-Haul Company of West Sacramento
1750 W Capitol Ave
West Sacramento, CA 95691
The manager is Mitchell Menezes. I don't know if this was his idea, or someone else's. He is the person who wrote me that email.
I am still leaving a 1 star review for them across social media. I still plan on never giving them my business again. I would encourage all my fellow Burners to start recording all conversations with U Haul (make sure you tell them first), and taking photos and videos of the truck, both before and after, including in some of them the person showing you the truck. Hell, the second you start talking to a person at the desk there, start recording. Make sure to ask, when you initial the "Car/Box clean return clean or pay fee" box on your form if there is a minimum charge for cleaning all Burner trucks, what it is, and if isn't what you were quoted, say that on tape too.
For every ridiculous fee, we need to fight back, and let corporate know. Hopefully, if we make enough noise, they'll end this bullshit.
If they don't, at least we can build a database for everybody to access that will let Burner's know which Uhauls treat us with respect and don't try to exhort us, and which ones should be avoided like the plague.
