I don't know if I suck at google searches these days or if it's a tightly held secret, but my friends and I were thinking about making some burnable wooden art for the Burn this year. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find a single scrap of info on the internet about this, other than in the most general terms.
Does anybody happen to either know a site that explains the basic how-tos and/or is a person who has made wooden art and wouldn't mind discussing their process?
Our main questions is just what kind of woods to use. BMorg says "clean burning", but when I try to look up "clean burning woods" I can't find any good resources on what that means. I'd assume that balsa is too lightweight and flimsy to make good art. Are any softwoods good? Pine? Or are hardwoods better?
Beyond that, we have curiosity about thicknesses (we were thinking of making a laser cut-type project), but once we actually knew where to start with the kind of wood, we could do mock-ups and figure that out more easily.
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated. I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already done a ton of google searches (and also searched eplaya) looking for this kind of info and come up with nothing.
(ps: We know we might be totally in over our heads, but at least are hoping for enough info to experiment)
