What's the most unhinged thing you've stumbled upon at Burning Man?
Post Body

I was reading the "Most Unhinged Thing" thread on the Electric Forest sub and thought Iā€™d ask the same question about Burning Man.

One year, a hetero couple was at our camp, doing our camp activity. One of our extremely gay male camp mates called the woman "honey". Her BF said something about how it's a violation of HIS boundaries to hear his GF called honey. Gay campmate apologizes to the woman and she says it's fine, she doesn't care, everything is fine.

This causes a fight between the couple that ends when dude flips the table and storms off. She starts crying, we sit with her and have a long talk about what a shitbag he is. She realizes she needs to break up with him. She leaves.

Later in the day, I and my partner are taking a leisurely bike ride and we come across this camp that is fucking destroyed. Structures all broken and knocked down. Looks like a car drove through it...because a car DID drive through it. It's the couples camp and when the woman can back and broke up with the dude, he got into their car and rage-mowed down the whole fucking camp.

The good(?) news was he hit another vehicle and knocked himself out (no seatbelt), so there was time for the cops to come and arrest him.

Fucking dumb, shitty asshole.

I don't know how things turned out after the Burn, but she did come back later in the week to tell us what happened. I forgot to mention it, but when we biked by the camp, we had no idea what happened, it was empty at the time, and the vehicle had been moved/he was gone.

She came back and told us and we were like "Wait, are you the camp at <location>?" and she said that was them and we told her we saw it. She confirmed that everybody was OK/no injuries and told us that her plan was to pack her stuff and move out as soon as she got home, since it seemed like he'd be in jail for a min.

I hope she fully made it out OK. From what she said, he'd be a little controlling and shitty before, but this was beyond the pale for him and she was not going to stay with him after it.

Yeah, we saw it and it was just...so horrifying. So very horrifying. I can still see it when I think about it and it makes me feel sick. Especially for the people who pulled him out. Nobody deserves to try and deal with that.
