My baby… 2011 Lucerne CXL, can’t play music from my iPhone 12. Anyone…??

Bought this car a year ago and I’ve always had the dongle/aux cable combo, but also got XM radio and didn’t try using it. It will not work with my phone via Bluetooth or cable, but the cable works with my iPad. I didn’t try pairing Bluetooth with the iPad, no desire to. Anyone else have issues playing Spotify music in their 2011 CXL via Bluetooth and aux cable? Is there a way around it? Phones too new possibly?
