After rigorous testing with the two tank designs sold to us by the British, the Carden-Lloyd tankette and the Vicker Mk. II, it has been found that using the tankettes is generally a bad idea.
Unreliable and too small to make a difference on the battlefield, as well as lacking a turret, the Carden-Lloyds will not be suitable for the Czechoslovak military as a frontline vehicle. What was nice about the Carden-Lloyd was itโs maneuvrability and speed. Czechoslovak military units need to be able to maneuvre around a battlefield quickly and efficiently, and the Carden-Lloyd was excellent at this, when it worked.
The Vickers Mk. II is a capable tank, though too large and cost-prohibitive for the Czechoslovak military. The tank itself is capable, as well as itโs QF 3 Pounder, though the maneuvrability of the Carden-Lloyd proves to be too desireable to sacrifice for such a vehicle. A noted benefit was a two-man turret, something that most tanks lacked. A lighter, faster tank with a two man turret will be extremely beneficial.
Rather than buying production licences from the British to make either of these vehicles, work will be put into developing an indiginous design to perfectly suit Czech demands. The Czechoslovak military has put forward the following two designs to Skoda and CKD, who will both present prototypes to be tested.
LT-A
Both CKD and Skoda will present design protypes for this tank by 1933, where the Czechoslovak military will work with the winning design on what improvements to be made for production.
Weight: No more than 12 tonnes
Length: No more than 5m
Width: no more than 2.1m
Height: no more than 2.5m
Crew: 4
Main Armament: Must be able to house a cannon. Specifications will be provided when Skoda has delivered a prototype.
Secondary Armament: Hull-mounted vz. 26 machine gun, turret-mounted vz. 26 machine gun
Engine: Must be gasoline-powered, requires a power/weight ratio of 10 hp/tonne
Fuel Capacity: must hold at least 120 litres
Armour: Requires at least 8mm armour, with 15 on side plates and 25 on the front. Front must be sloping at least 10 degrees.
Suspension: leaf-spring
TT-A
The TT-A will be designed using the improvements of the Carden-Lloyd as a base. The contract will be given to CKD to produce a prototype. The purpose of this vehicle will not be as a frontline tank, but instead to be a support vehicle, supplementary to the LT-A. The TT-A will be able to tow light artillery and carry mortars, machine guns, and other equipment handily. This vehicle will have a large open compartment in the rear of the vehicle to accommodate such a purpose. The prototype is to be expected by 1932.
Weight: No more than 3.5t
Length: No more than 4m
Width: 2.06m
Height: No more than 1.6m
Crew: 3, though must be able to accompany a crew of 12 men.
Armament: Single vz. 26 machine gun
Engine: Must be able to accelerate the vehicle to 30km/h
Armour: Must provide at least 12mm of armour on all sides, bottom being 8mm.
Suspension: Leaf-spring
UV-A
A design request has been put towards Skoda for a tank gun. The QF 3-lber, while an excellent gun, was found to be lacking in anti-armour capabilities. Army staff now want a gun with a smaller bore diameter and larger anti-armour capabilities, for destroying large vehicles. HE shells are still necessary, of course, but less focus will be put into such a role. A prototype must be presented to the Czechoslovak military by 1932.
The gun requires the following specifications:
Shell: fixed
Shell weight: no more than 0.85kg
Calibre: 37.2mm
Breech: semi-automatic
Rate of Fire: 12 rounds per minute
Firing Range: Must be able to accurately hit a target out to 1000m, must have an overall range of 4000m
