I've been home sick for two days and decided to watch season 1 RHONY, now it's time to share my thoughts!
2008: WOW. The looks, the blackberries, the lack of fillers, extensions, & glam... It's like a time capsule! I love seeing everyone's (mostly) natural faces, teeth, hair.
Jill: stereotypical NYer, kinda tacky, so loud! She is the definition of "taking up space" but I appreciate that she is so confidently herself. Bobby reminds me of the old guy in Clerks who died in the bathroom, lol. His voice sounds just like him! Poor Ally seems steamrolled by Jill; hopefully she grew in confidence. Also her "gay husband" Brad was way too excited to be on camera.
Alex: pretentious social climber, but also seems intelligent with good taste and manners. However, she doesn't seem to have a personality of her own; it seems very curated by her husband. Their kids are darling, but clearly don't hear the word "no" very often. I love that they talk to their kids like regular humans and how invested they are in their education. I liked how she wasn't afraid to show her house in a partially renovated state and how chill the bday party was for her son.
Bethenny: I don't hate her??? I really thought I would, only knowing about her from seeing blurbs online all these years. I think she's a great friend to all the other women. She's honest & open about herself. I feel awful for how Jason seems to be stringing her along. Obviously I know how that ends but I'm really rooting for her!
LuAnn: delightful! Seems like a lovely person to be around. Her comments on class at the dinner party nailed it - making people feel comfortable in your presence. It was a bit cringy when she corrected Bethenny for introducing her as LuAnn to the driver, but I also kind of get it, she's titled.
Ramona/Rameana: does anyone actually like her? She's so full of herself. I feel so bad for her daughter having to put up with her antics. The woman is obnoxious and thinks way too highly of herself. She's been given too many passes in life and her sense of entitlement is gross to watch. The way she stomped off from the dinner party, the tantrum on the tennis court, stomping offset from the reunion, attacking Simon & Alex the moment she met them on "girls night"... How could anyone defend that behavior?
Anyway, it's safe to say I'm hooked and looking forward to season 2! What do you think of my 16-years-later takes?
Ooo I didn't know she was racist toward the RHOA ladies. That's disappointing. I've generally had a low opinion of her through the years based on things I've read online, which is why I was surprised to empathize with her in season 1.
