My Sidney pup is 13 years old and for the past year her hips have been painful. I’ve been giving her glucosamine supplements, going for shorter walks and giving her massages to help. She recently started refusing to go up stairs or climb even low grade hills. (Of course I’ve been carrying her up.) It breaks my heart to see my once playful and energetic pup to be in such pain. I understand this is part of aging, I just want to find some relief for her.
I took her to the vet, they put her on gabapentin. Has anyone else tried this for their dog? I’ve taken the human formula of gabapentin for pain, it helped a bit but made me feel drunk.
It’s only been a few days and as expected, it sedates her a bit. But it is working a little as she will climb the 3 steps on the porch after going potty.
Any experiences in dealing with gabapentin or other remedies are appreciated. Thanks all!
