Post Body

Later this month, I will be returning from Manila to Bahrain as my stopover until my next connecting flight with the above picture in my checked luggage.

For those who don’t know what a bolo is, this is a bolo. Length is under 50 cm. Bolos are a knife/sword in the Philippines used as a TOOL and play great sentimental significance in our culture and history as they date back as far as pre-colonel days back in the 1800s belonging to tribes of the Philippines when Spain was a colonizing world power at one point in time. Even sometimes in spirituality, bolos are sometimes known to be passed down from generation to the next. It is said that the spirits of our ancestors reside with the bolo itself as a way of strength, guidance, and protection over whomever descendant is in possession of it. Bolos also may sometimes take part in special ceremonies, prayers, and rich cultural dances. Other than that, they are also used for bushwhacking in thick dense environments like a jungle, used in farming, or in a field with tall grass.

That being said, this will be stowed away in it’s sheath in my checked luggage. My worry is when I arrive in Bahrain from Manila for my stopover, it will get confiscated for obvious reasons. Before transferring to another flight to go home to North America, will I have to face security/border checks in Bahrain? I’ve googled for answers but nothing specific. Only that knives are prohibited, minus kitchen knives.

Just wondering if any others whom have taken GF155 before or any airline employees of Bahrain, could tell me what the process was like after getting off the plane. Did you go through another security check? Do you have to haul your checked luggage off the luggage belt and check it in again prior to your next connecting flight?

Thank you all in advance.
