Different roleplay “upbringings”?

Post Body

This is kind of just an observation I had recently.

Ever since I started roleplaying or searching for roleplay partners here on Reddit, I’ve noticed some things that are pretty odd to me. Sometimes, if someone doesn’t answer for a day or even a few hours, they’ll say “Hey! Sorry I haven’t replied yet :(!” Or “Sorry I’ve been gone, I’m busy!”

As someone who doesn’t mind if my partner is gone and only check on them after a couple of weeks (like outright ask, I will submit artwork or songs to appropriate channels but they don’t have to answer at all), I feel bad when they apologize for being gone for just a few hours or, heaven forbid, having a life, lol. I just see roleplay as a hobby for me and others.

Am I just a sheltered roleplayer? Do people get upset now if you don’t answer for a day or weeks? When I first started roleplaying, I was taught quickly that bumping the thread too soon is annoying (like every hour) and to be patient for replies. I kinda feel bad my partners think they’ll lose me if they don’t reply for a day or a couple of weeks as a longterm roleplayer. I’m wondering if it’s the roleplay “culture” here on Reddit or in general now.
