3 hen moms sharing one chick
Post Body

These 3 hens had been trying to brood for a couple months before they finally hatched this little one. Don't know who she hatched under. The 3 have been sharing nesting spots. Usually 2 in one but they kept rotating the odd one out. They all sleep in a pile on the coop floor.

All 3 are very attentive to her. It's so fucking cute I can't stand it 😆

It's interesting the different levels of maternal instinct some of these hens have. We have another hen mom who had 3. She abandoned them after only raising them for about a week. (They're about a month old now)

Another hen has 6 and is fiercely protective of her babies.

And finally the last mama hen we have right now has 8 (used to be 9) and she hasn't abandoned them but she's certainly not very attentive. She'll wonder from place to place and if someone gets left behind, oh well. They can scream their little heads off and she won't look for them or do anything really. I'm often outside corralling lost chicks back to their shit mother. Lol.
