Oh, so my heels shouldn't touch the ground?
yeah the upper body is my next goal, now that I have the tempo down which was my biggest flaw last time around
I already have my knees bent a little, but it doesn't really show because of my jeans, but I should bend them more? When I tried to do that, it got really uncomfortable on my knees. Is that just because I'm not used to using them in this position and it will take a while to get used to?
Yes, having music helps a huge amount, especially the ones that have the count over the top of them which still really helps me at this stage. When it comes to the balls of the feet, I do feel like I'm doing that, but perhaps not enough. But then I worry that I'll miss the count if I spend longer pressing my foot down than I currently do. It's something I'll definitely be asking at my next bachata class as it's something I'm struggling to get to grips with!
Thanks for the tips, I definitely did feel a bit of up and down motion as I was doing it, so I'll try to correct that. Thanks for the advice about the shoulders too. Now that I have the tempo sorted I can start working on other things like the proper foot transfer, shoulders etc.
Hi everyone, a few months ago, I posted a video of me doing a basic bachata side step to see if anyone could critique it, and I was so appreciative of the responses, especially from u/MariusDA who took the time to make a small video with lots of very useful tips! Unfortunately, life got in the way, and I didn't get the chance to properly put things into practice until the last few weeks, so the video I'm posting now isn't the result of 4 months bachata, it's watching the video Marius made, and also having been to 2 bachata classes.
The original post is here for comparison. In this one, I didn't record my upper body as I just wanted to focus on some of the lower body stuff, mainly getting the tempo right. Using the song with the count on it was a very useful tip for whoever gave me that one. I tried to roll my feet, rather than be flat footed, and I know I still need to practise the merengue type step, and although it doesn't look much like it, I am bending my knees to a comfortable level. Finally, even though it looks like I go right on the 1 at the beginning, I actually go left. The way I had the phone camera setup recorded it in mirror image for some reason!
Any more tips for me would again be so appreciated. I'm starting to go to classes twice a week though, so I should see improvement then :)

Thanks for this. When i go to the class tonight I'm definitely going to ask about the foot pressing its what most people are mentioning. I've also got a 1 to 1 lesson lined up already very soon because this is something I really want to get good at 🙂
