In cooperation with the Attorney-General, Prime Minister model-putrid announced last night that The Base, who she called a "dangerous far-right hate group", will be declared as a terrorist organisation under Australian law. The group, which has already been declared as a terrorist group by Canada and the UK, seeks to establish terrorist cells across white countries in their bid to incite race war and create a fascist white-supremacist ethnostate.
The Prime Minister's office cited an ABC News investigation from March in proscribing the group, where it was found that The Base was actively attempting to recruit young Australian men, including the grooming of one teenager to their cause using encrypted message apps - chats which involved the Russian-based founder of the group.
The official listing of The Base as a terorrist group will make this sort of recruiting a punishable offense, as well as membership of the group. The risk of far-right extremism has been rising across the Western world in recent times, with security analysts telling Pitchfork News that the Prime Minister's decision was the "right choice" to combat the looming threat of terrorism from white supremacy.
And it wasn't just those in the security sphere. While many of the Prime Minister's recent decisions, including renaming Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport after deputy President lily-irl, have drawn nothing but scorn from the opposition, not only did the Green co-leader and Attorney-General TheTrashMan_10 sign off on this decision, but so did opposition leader dyljam, commending the move. It signals that model-putrid is, despite how it may have appeared initially, ready to step up to the challenge of the Prime Ministership and tackle the national security threats that face this country head-on.
It will be interesting to see where the PM goes after this. Pitchfork News, for one, hopes that she can keep going in this direction of protecting Australians and making bipartisan decisions that benefit us all.
