Hello! We recently adopted a dog from my folks. She was to be my dad's next prize retriever, but her ankle broke. After several casts and a surgery to insert a metal plate (which broke), my dad decided not to sink more money into trying to fix her paw. So, we adopted her.
She (Annie) gets around just fine, but her front left paw doesn't flex. It's hard to see in the picture, she favors her left leg, and as a result it is significantly atrophied compared to her right. She uses the leg mainly as a crutch to lean on, and as a club to swat at things, but generally tries to put less weight on it (unless she gets excited, in which case she forgets that it's injured).
She is already on a daily joint supplement recommended by our vet. But my fiance and I thought it might be a good idea to try and get to her exercise that leg a bit more, but we don't quite know how to get her to do so. We're planning to ask about this at the next vet visit, but I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.
