I’m a big fan of Crewdson, but I’ve always wondered how he funds his work.
As you all may or may not know, he uses Hollywood-level sets with people on staff for makeup, lighting, props, etc.
In the movie industry, this would normally be funded by a studio with the anticipation of making a profit off of box office sales, streaming, merch, and what not.
But Crewdson’s work doesn’t generate anywhere near the same revenue and it’s hard for me to see how it’s being funded.
I want to do photography of this type one day, but I am at a loss as to how a fine art photographer can get together that kind of cash.
