I am considering a future with kids (not a parent now) but I think the biggest thing that puts me off is thinking about the practicalities. I can't tell if I'm catastrophising these practicalities but they are a big barrier in my mind
Changing my sleep schedule for long periods of time; figuring out how to manage cost of living; needing to answer my phone more often because it could be my kids school or an emergency; figuring out how to drop of kid to school and pick up on time; whether or not to buy a car; turning off lights and fans that they have forgotten; buying a toothbrush and toiletries for the kid and keeping them stocked up etc.
In my personal life I don't necessarily mind needing to make these decisions or consider limitations but I see them as boring chores and I'm often looking forward to when I can just chill out on the lounge with minimal admin management in my own life. I'm not whiny about it but I just prefer simplicity.
Is the admin of managing a child in your life as bad as you originally thought? Were you more willing to take on these challenges for a kid, rather than purely for yourself?
