20 y/o UK coming to NYC in a few days, what can I do/where can I meet similar people?

I'll be doing all the usual tourist style stuff, but at night I want to go out, meet new people and so on. Anyway, here are a few questions:
- I know the drinking age is 21, is the ID situation pretty tight? (I'm guessing it is).
- Say I had a useable ID, where are some cheaper bars with college students/younger more party orientated people?
- Do you reckon I'd have fun going to an English themed pub?
- Where would I find similar aged people/college students to hang out with and have fun nights out with? I'm thinking of going to a dubstep concert and the like currently.
Any other suggestions would be great!
