Docked Wooden Ships in Hurricanes
Post Body

I am in the process of fleshing out a fantasy setting for my tabletop role-playing game and found a question I couldn't find an answer to.

In the age of wooden sailing ships, let's say during the golden age of piracy for instance, what happened to docked ships during hurricanes?

I have found a lot of information about ships already travelling and how the dealt with/avoided hurricanes, (which is what directed me to this sub) but what happened to docked ships? Was there a procedure in place? Was it the same for small vessels as it was for large?

From what I have found for modern vessels, it is recommended that the vessels are hauled ashore and strapped down, but would this have been viable way back then?

Was it safer and easier to just set sail and flee the area rather than risk the ship in the storm?

Anyway, I hope this has provided enough to spark discussion so that I may learn for my world-building.

Thanks in advance.
