I had a dream I was freediving, holding my breath…and then woke up gasping frantically.
Post Body

Is this bad?

It was not a nightmare, I was enjoying the fish but got to the “panic” phase of holding my breath in the dream while looking at a clown fish. So I started swimming to the surface to get a breath…and it was looking like I was going to make it juust in the nick of time.

I woke up at that point but the weird part was that I was gasping for air frantically IRL, my heart rate accelerated.

Im a 32 year old male, 5’7”, 130 lbs, with no (known) preexisting conditions.

Going out on a whim, could this possibly mean I have sleep apnea? Another condition? Or…Is this nothing? What is the cause of this?

While this has never happened exactly as explained, I have woken up occasionally feeling as if forgot to breathe, occasionally following bad dreams, or no dreams at all. I’d never been sure I had forgotten to breath, but this time I feel like it is almost certain I wasnt breathing shortly before waking up..I cant explain feeling so out of breath and my racing heart upon waking any other way as this was not a nightmare but a peaceful dream.

Freediving is also a hobby of mine IRL. Could freediving IRL have caused my to train myself inadvertently to hold my breath in my sleep? Makes me nervous, I dont want to suffocate myself while sleeping…
