About my mom- How serious is this, kidneys functioning at 12%. 64 year old female, COPD, kidney disease, high blood pressure, stents in heart, losing vision.
Post Body

Iā€™m asking regarding my mom, she isnā€™t honest with me or doctors. Sheā€™s a life long alcohol and smoker (3 glasses of wine a day 2-3 packs a day of smoking 40 years) her latest lab results came back and her kidneys are now functioning at 12%. They told her they need to discuss dialysis next appt. She is following a kidney friendly diet but refuses to quit drinking or quit smoking (despite COPD and oxygen at night). Sheā€™s also losing vision and refuses to tell her doctor that. She says it is ā€œnight blindnessā€ although itā€™s not at night. Whenever she walks in from smoking it takes several minutes for her vision to come back. Our home is well lit and she still needs additional lighting. She has a very low appetite and low energy although she has been like that my entire like (Iā€™m 36). My brother and my dad are both deceased already so Iā€™m all she has left. How serious is this? Will dialysis even help with her still drinking and the other heath issues? Do I need to be preparing myself mentally for her not to make it very much longer? Sheā€™s on several medications but I donā€™t know which ones.
