Pap smear result says “no endocervical component is identified” ?
Post Body

I’m 26F. No history of smoking or drinking. Weight is 169lbs & height is 5’3.

My last Pap smear (before this one) was May 2019. It was normal & I had endocervical components present. 2 years prior to that in 2017, I had a boyfriend that visibly showed signs of HPV. We had an intimate relationship. When I got tested two years later (May 2019) , I had a normal Pap smear result & also a negative HPV test result.

My recent Pap smear (November 2023) result says “no endocervical component is identified” , but it also states that it’s negative for intraepithelial lesions or malignancy. However, I was not tested for HPV. The lab commented “specimen does not meet criteria for HPV reflex testing”.

Since my first Pap smear 4 years ago (2019) , I have only had one partner & we used a condom each time. It’s been two years since we broke up. So , it’s been 2 years since my last sexual appearance & Im just now having this second Pap Smear.

My question is , since my Pap smear result says “no endocervical component is identified” , does that mean that something is wrong with me now? It was present back in 2019. But now, it’s not. Also , does this mean that this current pap smear is considered inconclusive because of that? Is the result not as accurate? The exam was uncomfortable & my doctor is a current resident, so I’m not sure if she’s as experienced as opposed to other doctors who have done this exam for several years after doing their residency. Do I have to repeat the test?

I’m sorry for all of the questions. But I am really bummed out because I know my ex had HPV. I would’ve felt more at ease about this if my results atleast mentioned endocervical components being present. That would’ve helped me to understand if the best possible specimen was achieved during my exam.

What should I do?
