Could I use molasses for brown stew chicken?

Iām trying to make brown stew chicken, and usually I would use a browning sauce, specifically Grace. I ran out of the sauce though. Could I use molasses for browning? Is it/is it not the same as browning? If not, could I just use soy sauce? (Iām a beginner brown stew-er here š« )
