New to the game, are only bots?

Hey everyone! I’m new to the game and really enjoying it so far, but I’m a bit confused about how things work. I’m currently level 11 and I mostly play Tactical Ops - Normal. Whenever I spawn into a match, I can’t quite tell if I’m playing against real players or just bots.

Sometimes I hear gunshots around the map, does that mean there are other players nearby? Also, if I see dead bodies and looted crates, does that confirm there are other players? I’m still figuring things out, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
