Hi everyone, I just got my SE last week and I'm trying to get a sleep tracking setup working for me.
The native Sleep tracking isn't as in-depth as I'd like (doesn't show stages of sleep etc) so I installed AutoSleep as it was the most recommended. I've been using it for three nights now and I'm still trying to work out the kinks.
- The first two nights I didn't use the "Lights Off" function, I just let it do its thing during the night. Last night I did do the "Lights Off" function to deal with the display (see #2) and it basically shows REM/deep sleep as soon as I started "Lights Off" mode for about six hours.
2, The reason I used Lights Off is because without it, my watch was lighting up brightly whenever I lifted my arm (for example when I rolled over to the other pillow) and waking me. LO worked well in keeping the watch "asleep" along with me, but it caused some weird behaviour as described in #1. I wish there was a way for that to turn on automatically.
- How exactly is stages of sleep detected? I'm asking because I'm trying to work out the timing. I get into bed around 9PM but usually I play on my Nintendo Switch for about 30-60 minutes. I'm not moving around much but I'm also not asleep. I also keep my iPhone on my bed beside me because I'll play a YouTube playlist, podcast, or white noise type playlist as I fall asleep. So I'm sure my phone moves throughout the night. I've adjusted an AutoSleep setting that ignores my iPhone being "used" but I don't know if that affects it physically being moved/bumped indicating I'm not asleep when I actually am.
As much as I don't like the native Sleep app for its lack of details, I do like the whole "wind down" routine you can schedule automatically without having to hit "Lights Out" or "Go to Sleep".
I've only had my new watch for three days, so I'm sure I am just scratching the tip of the iceberg -- but the sleep tracking was one of the main reasons I upgraded from my S1 so I'd love to make use of it as best as I can.
