I have a completely stock Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE on Sprint, but I've seen the same issue reported on various phones and networks. Basically, my issue is this:
When using the Navigation feature of the built-in Maps app, with the Satellite layer on and while I am moving, the app will crash anywhere between almost immediately (after beginning navigation) to about 10-15 minutes with a "Unfortunately Maps has stopped" error. Looking through the report identifies it as an OutOfMemoryError. Often, while the Maps app will disappear the navigation will continue with voiced directions. This does not occur with the satellite layer off, while looking at the map without using navigation, or while not moving, and only began happening after my phone updated to Android 4.1 about 2 months ago. I have taken steps up to flashing the phone with no change in the problem.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I've seen various things online but none of helped. This is really starting to annoy me, as I really like the satellite layer but the built-in Maps app appears to be the only one that has it.
