I (17 F) have never been that close to my sister (18 F), and we’ve had a fair share of arguments but she is still me sister. And because as she’s moving out soon I wanted to go all out to make up for the past, as i obviously won’t see her as much and want to leave on good terms.

As again were not that close anymore I wasn’t sure what kind of thing she would like, so I reached out to one of her friends ( let’s call her Alice) and we got to chatting. As we were talking her friend made a throwaway comment about a boyfriend, which was interesting because I had no idea she had one, so I asked about it. Alice mentioned that she had started dating a John a few months ago.

This was a bit of a surprise as John is my ex and we had only broken up about three or four months ago. This really hurt because if her and John got together when her friend says they did, that only would have happened a week or two after we broke up, and given that me and her weren’t speaking at the time (some stupid argument about about a jumper) I can’t help but feel like she did this to hurt me.

Here is where I might be the asshole, because of how upset and surprised I was t completely forgot to get her a birthday gift, so when here birthday came around it was very obviously I was the only one without a gift. This would have been a wee bit awkward but fine if she hadn’t made a quite snide and unpleasant comment, which just made me snap. I saw red and started yelling at her, which admittedly wasn’t the best way to confront her about it, but I was to pissed to care at the time.

As you can imagine this kinda killed the party and I got a lot of judgemental looks with lots of people telling me that I shouldn’t have yelled at her like that in front of everyone on her special day.
