AJ:AA Episode 2 - Why did that thing happen? Spoilers, obviously
Post Body

Talking about the end, so if you're halfway through and taking a risk, you're going to get spoiled :)

That said, to those who've played it and don't mind:

Why did Wockys fiancé whose name I constantly forget plead guilty?! She had no problem lying in court more than any other villain in the series, we know that for a fact. So admitting it came entirely out of the blue for me.

She could have plead self defense.

Hell, she could have convinced herself it was self-defense - he was going to throw her in the river, for crying out loud! And she was stuck in a noodle stand, while suddenly, her fiancé meets this violent man who just attempted to murder her. With a gun. Okay, so granted the legal system where I'm from works very differently from that of Japan and the US and the AA universe which is stuck somewhere in between with some good imagination sprinkled on top, but I would've done the same thing in cold blood and never looked back, no matter whether I was previously conspiring to murder him or not.

There was just so many half truths that could have helped her stumble through the case and get off on self defense. But - thinking about it, I seem to recall something about how in the AA universe, murder is murder regardless of self defense? Obviously, that would be a problem.

But regardless, the legal system in AA is flawed in some ways that would work in her favor. Specifically, that the initial investigation trials that we experience through the games always focus on one involved party, and getting that specific person either a guilty verdict or a not guilty verdict. The system most of us knows is more concerned with finding out who of the suspects to consider guilty out of any number. This difference means that even though she is found to be guilty in this case, officially, all that's been proven is Wockys innocence.

You can even easily imagine how the testimony would go down:

"Okay... I admit I brought the gun to Dr. Meraktis clinic!"

"However, I was only planning to threaten him."

"He didn't react anything like I expected!"

"That's when he attacked me and tried to kill me!"

"When I woke up in the noodle stand, I knew I had only one chance to make it out alive."

"So... I shot him."
