Synopsis: Upon receiving your first-ever candy gram on your desk, you interrogate your best friend to discover who your secret admirer is. (~900 words)

Soft footsteps walk to and from classrooms, the beginning of Spring drawing near as the trees along the pathway sway from the breeze. The listener spots their friend from the crowd and comes over.

BEST FRIEND

Oh, hey. What's up? Don't you have another class right now? You always complain about how far it is from this one.

BEST FRIEND

Happy Valentines Day to you too. Oh, you got a candy gram? And flowers! Wow, lucky. That is so sweet.

Nah, nothing this year. I don't mind not getting one. I actually like this holiday though, all of the candy is on sale, hehe. Are you still up for watching dumb romance movies and heavily judging them tonight?

Sweet. And I don't think so? I'm sure one of your classmates from another class probably sent you them.

(chuckling)

Why are you looking at me like that?

Well, I remember a lot of little things. Not things like what is taught in class but you know, selective memory. But of course, I'd remember details from someone I care about. Come on, you gotta get to class.

(long groan)

Okay, okay. I can't seem to hide anything from you. So… what if I did know?

Oh. You never told me that. I guess it would make a big difference if it was from your crush.

Fine. Don't say I didn't warn you. The gift… was from me. I'm sorry. I got you excited over nothing. I wanted to see your reaction to finally getting a surprise like this. I thought it would brighten your day and maybe you'd brag a little about it. It was worth it to see you get all flustered, it’s not like I pay attention in that class anyways, but now I realize I didn't think it through.

Why wouldn't I? You're my best friend, of course I admire you. You're caring and ambitious and… I’m sorry again that it's not from your crush.

(pouty/playful)

The whole point was to not make a scene, haha. Ahem. Well, I wasn't expecting it to be me. Not that it's bad or anything! I'm honored! Thrilled even! I just uhm, wasn't prepared.

Let me calm down first. It's pretty warm out here, huh? I'm kinda breaking a sweat. Whew.

(sighing/bashful)

Well, I meant what I said. I do admire you. You're dorky and make me laugh and I always have so much fun with you even if we just ramble about nothing. If anything I feel more at ease. You're my best friend. And, well, I do kind of have a crush on you too. It wasn't a super big deal. I would support you all the way even if you didn't feel the same about me. But I just didn't have the guts to say anything because of course I was afraid of making it awkward. I don't think you'd cut me off or anything but… heh I guess you're right, I tend to avoid things.

(normal/peppy)

But that gift was meant to be platonic because I do appreciate you and love you as a friend. What's your excuse for not telling me?

They kiss some more.

Now for real, get to class already. The sooner it's over with the sooner we can watch those cheesy movies. And eat all the candy we want of course hehe.
