I grew up in an all non-adhder immediate family (but dad is suspecting he has ADHD) that values saving money and making large purchases only when you can afford it.
Of course, that sounds great on paper, but when it comes to ADHD, delayed gratification becomes a large issue... I feel I can only save up for a down payment before the ADHD gets the best of me.
Ofc, I will still try to keep MOST purchases to at cash purchases. The big purchases I'm thinking of are more like a high-quality mattress, and possibly a car and a new PC (for both creative projects and gaming).
But the lack of support I feel for making this realization is killing me... If only it WERE as simple as saving up for it like non-adhders seem to be able to do with ease... every article, every family member... always saying "just save up for it with cash!"
Why isn't financing seen as yet another ADHD tax and just met with overt, covert, or inavert shame?
