Being distracting in class and how it effects socializing

Post Body

Hi all!

Started going back to college recently. In one of my classes I sit next to a couple people Id like to get to know better. Unfortunately, cause of my ADHD and lack of coping strategies, Ive been coming in late most days. On top of that it's been really hard for me to pay attention during the lectures and activities. So I end up doodling and fidgeting most of the class. Im on medication, it just takes a while to really take effect. Im good at the subject, so Im alright in group discussions etc.

I feel like because of my inattention and hyperactivity I come across negatively to people in the class. Like I was doodling today at a different table during a group activity, while listening to the professor. Somebody kicked me under the table :/

It's been kinda tricky trying to make friends in this class. Like at my usual table we get along and we make jokes, but theres a bit of freeze. Theres also a bit of "youre distracting/coming across like you dont care" energy directed towards me.

Im gonna try speaking with the professor so she won't think Im trying to be disrespectful when Im struggling to pay attention. Wondering if y'all have advice about this. Ive been struggling to make friends, and it kinda hurts to be the inattentive, distracting student, when I care about the subject matter and I wanna get to know my classmates.
